Hi, Busker Joe here
Required 20 males to form 10 couples for one skipper one crew format for one only open canoe to use as a relay baton from Glasgow to Edinburgh, Forth & Clyde and Union Canals, distance 60 miles in 15 hours? 60 divided by 15 = 4 miles per hour paddling

That's quite fast but probably doable depending on the portages. May I ask why??

Busker Joe,
I understand the concept but would like to know why,
I.E.
Is it part of a competition, or race?
in aid of charity or other fund raiser?
or just cause it sounded like a good thing to do,
Also a few more details like when it might happen might help (approximate dates not a time schedule) Some of us get busy in the summer months
Not trying to pick holes here just hoping to be helpful

hi busker joeSMbanghead there are five locks though B W are with us we have to by pass the locks nor can we use the wheel so portage from lock 16 to union canal is the most portage
why
1 promote the pleasures and skills of the double canoe
2 also the f/clyde and union canal
3 labour worthy of reward
Skippers may cater quietly for registered charity of their choice theres always such room
but if we fail lets not hide

What? He's branding the people who join him in his escapade?
What are the logistics for getting people to and from the four-mile marks? Will the paddlers have to provide their own paddles, or are they part of the 'baton' as well?
It's quite a good idea for a charity fund-raising event, so I hope it goes ahead, even though it is way too far away from my stomping grounds for me to consider doing a leg!

we will not be alowed on the falkirk wheel, f/clyde end for us is lock 16 then portage to union canal it would be required to maintain 4mph for one and a halve hr thanks for comments www corroon-portraits.com

busker joeSMbanghead hi crow sorry about delay in reply but got the hang of this comp now i hope
prefered choice for the moment old town 16 foot double but a canoe maker may want to provide similiar for coverage of his product
"paddles" two beaver paddles, bow paddle blade less diamitor than stern paddle. debate.
strap band around centor of canoe for easy uprighting of canoe just in case, yes it does work.
grapling iron three prong for high embankments , and sea anckor in case of capsice in strong winds. yes it does
whistle or horn for notice.
four persons positive

What I have made out of the info given by Joe (the heid bangin’) Busker, is, that he is organising a canoe relay event from Glasgow to Edinburgh along Forth and Clyde canal and the Union canal via the Falkirk Wheel.

The complete journey (60 miles) is expected to be done in 15 hours, using 10 different 2 man crews along the way (in a relay style) each crew would do 6 miles at about 4 miles per hour, so 1.5 hours each crew. Each set of locks on the canals and the Wheel will have to be portaged.

The trip will be done in a 2 man 16 foot Old Town canoe, but a sponsor could ‘donate’ a canoe if they wished.

2 “Beaver Paddles” will be used.

There is no charity involved at the moment, but it might be a good thing to get one involved.

Joe has information about it on his web-site.

hi mack thanks for your intorest "busker joe" the canoe will have to be portaged from lock 16 to union canall by four persons the two finishing the f/clyde together with the two begining the union canal about quarter of a mile.but I have available weels used before.
charity each captain will be responsible for crew selection, also a charity of his choice but the charity is his private mater not to be advertised
IF we fail lets not hide.
I have paddled the full lenghth of the union canal but nowing you are from west loathian how you would divide the canal into five sections would be welcome knowlage

The direct link is here
http://www.corroon-portraits.com/custom.html
I struggle to see the point in this. I am all for events to promote canoeing but this does not seem to be doing much to that end. There is a SCA event every year that has a lot of canoes can kayaks doing this course in a two day event. I would also think that this would get more publicity if done for one charity rather than ten anonymous ones.
The council are very keen to promote the canal use at the moment though s it could be worth contacting them.
